Cheapest Liquid Laundry Detergent Ideas

Buying laundry detergent can make a big dent in any budget, and I have my own way where I can save money.

If you bought a 5 gallon price in the store, you will not pay $ 100 !! Perhaps even more depending on the brand. But, when you make yours – you can make 5 gallons for less than $ 2 !!

When I buy all the ingredients for the first load – it comes out for $ 6.95 – but there is still a lot of borax and washing soda left, so I need to buy for the next few batches the Fels Napa soap (which it actually is Cheap!). That makes 20 gallons for under $10!

Ingredients for make cheap Liquid Laundry Detergent Homemade

  • Water
  • Borax
  • 5 gallon bucket
  • Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda (NOT baking soda)
  • 5.5oz Fels-Naptha Soap (you can also use Zote or castile soap – about the same amount, you don’t have to be exactly precise)

Cheap Liquid Laundry Detergent Ideas Recipe Homemade

First, you grind your Fels-Naptha soap. Or you can substitute Zote (which will make your laundry detergent pink for all your girl-girls) or a pure castile soap.

Add pieces of soap to a pot with 4 cups of hot water. Pour heat over medium-high, and shake until completely melted – about 10 minutes.

Half fill a 5 gallon bucket with hot water. Pour in the melted soap mixture.

Then, stir in 1 cup borax and 1 cup washing soda.

If you are using essential oil, now is the time to add it. You add 1 / 2oz to 1oz, depending on how fragrant you want it to be. However, I never really measure it anymore – where I feel satisfied, and stir, I shake just enough drops.

Now, fill the bucket with warm water from above – and shake again. If you don’t have a pot long enough to reach the bottom, just place a pair of rubber dish gloves in advance.

Snap on a lid, and let it sit for 24 hours.
